In 2016 an agreement was signed with Cosco Shipping Ports Ltd., Khalifa Port will  begin operations of a new  terminal in the coming years of which the annual ability is 2.4 million TEUs. The yearly handling with capacity will increase to 3.5 million TEUs and it will increase the whole yearly capability to 6 million TEUs on the completion of all stages in container terminals equally.
